Winter 2025 Promotions
Onegai shimasu, Hanshi, Kyoshi, and all Deshi!
The Ueshiro Northfield and Ueshiro Carleton dojo recently held our combined winter testing.
Our Saturday session began at the Carleton dojo with Sempai David Huyck leading us through warm-ups, and Sensei Guy Lawrence taking the group through basics.
Sensei Steve Hatle then led the group through a set of full speed and power kata to prepare for the test.
With a Board of Judges consisting of Sensei Steve Hatle, Yon-Dan, Sensei Guy Lawrence, San-Dan, Sempai David Huyck, Sho-Dan, and Sempai Scott Sijan, Ni-Dan, the testing candidates went through demonstration of kata, basic moves across the deck, yakusoku-kumite as appropriate, and questions regarding the history and lineage of our style.

Ni-Kyu:

The testing session ended with breaking, with some kyu rank students challenging themselves to break for the first time!
On Monday night, we gathered again with a very similar agenda to test two candidates for Green Belt. The Board of Judges for this test included Sensei Hatle, Sensei Lawrence, Sempai Vincent Sommer, Sho-Dan, and Sempai Brent Pellinen, Sho-Dan.
