MN in May 2025 Schedule
The following is an excerpt of Sensei Hatle’s message to the USRK mailing list from a couple weeks ago:
Our Minnesota in May event will begin Friday evening, May 16th and wrap up early Sunday afternoon, May 18th with a full weekend of karate training. All workouts will be held at the Cowling Gymnasium’s Dance Studio.
Kyoshi Mackay and other high-ranking Black Belts will be overseeing a Dan-level test on Saturday, May 17th. As per USRKUSA protocol, all Black Belts system-wide are strongly encouraged to attend such special events, whether you are testing or not. Please discuss with your Shihan.
The proposed schedule is as follows (and remember – “if you’re not 15 minutes early, you’re late!”):
Friday, 7pm – 9pm: Greeting and kick-off class. All ranks.
Saturday, 9am – noon: Warmups and basics followed by kata and bunkai training/analysis. All ranks.
Saturday afternoon: Black Belt Testing – open to Black Belts and Black Belt candidates only
– There will also be kyu rank training available during this time at a close-by location.
Saturday night: Social time and pot-luck dinner in Northfield.
Sunday, 9am – 10am: Warmups and informal training in small groups. All ranks.
Sunday, 10am – 12:30pm: Review and demonstrations of kata and traditional weapons. All ranks.
Northfield is located 40 minutes south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and served by the MSP airport. We can provide information on lodging options in Northfield and the surrounding area – Google and Yelp can help as well.
If you don’t wish to rent a car, we can arrange pick-up/drop-off at the airport as well as transportation in Northfield to the event site if necessary.
This weekend is open to all Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu students of all ranks. Please RSVP to Sensei Hatle soon so we can facilitate the logistics to make this a great all-around weekend of Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do!
