Hanshi’s Beiju Celebration

The head of our Ueshiro Shorin Ryu Karate (USRK) organization, Hanshi Robert Scaglione, Ju Dan, celebrates his 88th birthday this October. In Japanese and Okinawan culture, the 88th birthday, or Beiju (米寿), holds special significance — not just for longevity, but as a symbol of abundance and prosperity.
This fall, USRK will celebrate Hanshi Scaglione and his decades of leadership with a weekend of Karate and friendship, gathering in Florida from October 15-19. See more in the announcement below.

Hanshi’s 88th Birthday Celebration Weekend is quickly approaching. We encourage all deshi to join us for a weekend of celebration, fellowship and honoring Hanshi’s birthday and lifelong dedication to Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate. Please see below for the current line up of workouts and activities.
Thursday, October 15th
6:00 PM – Class at Suntree/Melbourne Dojo under the direction of Hanshi Robert Scaglione
Friday, October 16th
6:00 AM – Sunrise class at the Merritt Island Dojo led by Kyoshi Kevin Reymond
Immediately following this class will be seminars in the traditional Okinawan weapons led by the Kyoshi.
5:00 PM – Class at the Viera Rec Center Gym led by Kyoshi David Seeger and supervised by Hanshi Robert Scaglione.
Saturday, October 17th
9:00 AM – Workout on Cocoa Beach located behind the Cocoa Beach Hilton led by Kyoshi Michael Mackay.
5:00 PM – Birthday Celebration Dinner in the Grand Ballroom at the Cocoa Beach Hilton.
9:00 PM – Informal weapons training on Cocoa Beach behind the Hilton led by the Kyoshi.
Sunday, October 18th
10:00 AM – Annual Black Belt Workout, Review & Dan Level Testing at the pavilions at the Viera Rec. Center led by Hanshi Robert Scaglione (Black Belts Only).
Monday, October 19th
8:00 AM – Class, weekend recap, and Q&A at the Merritt Island Dojo led by Hanshi Robert Scaglione and the Kyoshi.
This will be a very special weekend of training with many high level Black Belts including Hanshi, the Kyoshi, Shihans and Sensei from USRKUSA dojo(s) worldwide participating. Deshi of all levels are encouraged to participate..
